In 19 51, three years after the 19 forty eight heat wave, dorothy anderson and walter kessler published a paper on heat exhaustion in c f patients. Anderson and kessler were the ones who suggested that sistic fibrosis affected not just the pancreos but maybe the sweat glands too. This was a pivotal moment in the history of the disease. But when it came to learning about sweat, this 19 51 heat exhaustion paper was just the start. Two years later, in 19 53, three additional studies came out, examining what makes c f sweat so unique. They all conclude that c f patients have considerably more chloride in their sweat.
