synthetic biology is about being able to read right edit the dna find things that you want to make put them into cells that can make them. This is why we're seeing this boom in synthetic biology over the last ten years of people now building stuff with biology. i think i've noticed is that fermentation really seems to be a very key part of this and that also  also includes nanotechnology.
