You seem to be after an integrative process on multiple levels here, absolutely. You are interested in continuity and this kind of integration in more than one way. Notice that it was not necessary to have a nervous system in order to get to complex forms of behavior. And there again, the idea that bacteria and many other simple organisms can have such complex behaviors is serving. When you open up possibilities and you make it easier, if you reconceive of the circumstances in which you generate mind, both easier and and more complicated in some ways.
