Studying Ethnicity in Medieval Europe

The more study ethnicity in mediaeval europe, the more confused i get. The sheer nastiness of a lot of the stuff that was being saying made me sick. And also, the the number of comparisons between ethnic groups and animals. This isn't just dehumanizing. It's a way, also, again, of organizing labor and property rights. I'm really struck by how often this is actually happening.
