Tolstoy said, let's just leave war unregulated so we know what we're dealing with. And he actually then embraced brutal war. Now, that's clearly insane, even though the stock response to my arguments tends to be: well, if you're not for humane war, you must be for brutal war. But i think tolstoy made like a ond kind of mistake in his later career, and it was just to kind of be too early.
