There's something called geo-fencing. So what this group is doing is they're looking to see who is pinging these apps kind of at the time of night that would indicate they really lived at the rectories for a multiple number of nights in a row. As of right now, there are not a lot of laws that touch on this at all. The US lacks a strong federal privacy law and most of the policy conversation in the US stops at first party business you interact with.
