Long distance train fares now work pretty much like airfares do. You can go from London to Paris or Brussels from £39 each way on Eurostar. So the cheap fares are there if you book in advance and if you book at the right website which is what I try and help people do. If you go on a sleeper train it might cost more than the flight but of course it might have saved you a hotel as well. We think the German networks lovely. But we have problems at the moment.
