The Life and Times of Christopher Columbus
Christopher Columbus died in 1506, just a year after miraculously surviving his fourth voyage. Contrary to a popular myth, he did not die poor, chained, and imprisoned. He died still with all his titles intact, and living off the many spoils that he had managed to ring out of Hispaniola. The real Columbus was certainly important. His voyages changed the world. And when you read articles defending the legacy of Columbus, I would argue that it is Washington Irving's Columbus that people are defending. That's the Columbus they were taught about as kids. The brave Columbus. The world changing Columbus.
