Is There a Scale Shift Between Performance and Cost?

Apple used to be very sub-scale and small. Now Apple is big enough that even though chips are more expensive, it now makes sense. They now have the scale for it to make sense for them to do this. If you're AWS or the same if you're YouTube, like you're big enough that making your own chip might be more expensive from one level, it makes more economic sense on another.
