The NHS's Long-Term Workforce Plan
This is a 15-year plan to deliver the biggest ever expansion in the number of doctors and nurses that we train. Medical school places, for example, about 7,500 per year, capped will double to 15,000 by 2031. 50% increase in GP training places, 24,000 more nurse and midwife student places year double. This is all looking to 2031, so quite a long time out and it gets there gradually, but it is going to be a big increase in the workforce. And they've identified, if you don't do anything, you're going to have a shortfall of 360,000 by2031 or further on into that decade.
