The Utility of Constraints
The best thing you can do when you are stuck is to limit your options. Phil Hansen introduced incredibly tight constraints, which paradoxically loosened him up. The absence of constraints in making that new decision to pivot is a problem. And so what he started to do and how he eventually got unstuck was to say, all right, well, for this artwork, I'm only going to use a two-by-four to apply paint. And for this one, I'm not going to spend more than a dollar.
