I think some of the people who would now seek to defend Western civilization would find it very offensive almost to think of these people as being part of the history of the west. But they absolutely are. I've got a chapter on a medieval Islamic scholar called Al-Kindi, who was an amazing mathematician, an astronomer, a doctor, a kind of a physicist. He also developed this theory about knowledge and that knowledge is not confined to people of a particular civilization or a particular race. It's something that should be shared by all humanity.
