I think some of the people who would now seek to defend Western civilization would find it very offensive almost to think of these people as being part of the history of the west. But they absolutely are. I've got a chapter on a medieval Islamic scholar called Al-Kindi, who was an amazing mathematician, an astronomer, a doctor, a kind of a physicist. He also developed this theory about knowledge and that knowledge is not confined to people of a particular civilization or a particular race. It's something that should be shared by all humanity. And he played a big role in preserving the texts of especially Greek antiquity,. building on Greek science and Greek mass and Greek knowledge through into the medieval period
