The Invention of the Female
There was no category, separate category of female until the late 17 hundredt in western europe. Women were thought to be a different expression of the same underlying sex. When scientists developed this idea that there were two biologically different sexes, it wasn't because of any new scientific discoveries. It was because capitalism demanded that we have very, very fixed and distinct cultural and biological identities.
