Heparadoxes of time are resolved because if you go backwards in time, you split the universe apart. You don't alter your own past, because the river of time splits into two rivers. String theory eliminates the divergence s of an ordinary theory of gravity. An ordinary theory of gravity says that if i get a worm hole and i walk into it and i go into the past, the machine blows up. But in string theory, nothing blows up. Things are finite. And so there's still a chance, no matter how remote, there's still the chance that time travel may actually be possible. So now let's return to reality. How would you actually do this?
Synthesizing relativity and quantum theory would be the crowning achievement of science, a profound merging of all the forces of nature into one beautiful, magnificent equation to unlock the deepest mysteries in science. In this episode, Michael Shermer speaks with professor of theoretical physics Michio Kaku about: the Big Bang, black holes, worm holes, the multiverse, time travel, dark energy and dark matter, gravity, string theory, ETIs, meaning, and God.
