What Is a Secret Society?

The most secret societies would be those whose very existence is secret. We need to be careful about who we refer to as a secret society because every group of people has information that they keep private or confidential. Every business has confidential financial information and usually trade secrets, but you wouldn't call the Red Cross a secret society.
