The Supply Chain Disruption of Europe's Economy
The desire to punish russia for its unconscionable behavior is complicated enormously by europe's heavy dependence on russia to meet its energy needs. Russia supplies roughly one third of europe's oil, forty five % of its imported gas and nearly half its coal. Curtailing this supply would be difficult at any time, but particularly so at this time of year when people need to heat their homes. That means russia's biggest export and largest source of hard currency, 20 billion dollars a month, is the figure i see itis the hardest one to sanction,. as doing so would cause serious hardship for our allies.
