What Is Venerating Icons?

The word icon just means image, but the thing we have to understand is that it has a technical meaning. icons are distinct from religious art generally and serve a special liturgical purpose. The church does not require Catholics to venerate icons or religious images. However, it does teach as a matter of doctrine that there is nothing wrong with this practice, as long as it's done appropriately.
