During war time, mothbald ships were recommissioned. Civilian ships were pressed into duty and captured m warships joined the fleet. This rush of new ships entering the service meant even the lowliest officer was suddenly in high demand. From an early age, he craved risk and danger. Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result. Nelson was also a true believer in the cause. He was a text book patriot and supporter of the monarchy who believed the ruling order was ordained by god. And of course, why wouldn't he? The ruling order had served nelson very well.
