The Great Industrial Revolution
New farming techniques led to an agricultural boom. As the rural population grew, people streamed into cities looking for work. The british were beginning to grasp the fundamental calculus of the industrial era. Real power did not flow from guns, land and noble titles, but from credit and commerce. Society was becoming more commercially oriented, and thus more meritocratic. But any one without money or luck to distinguish themselves still enjoyed the fruits of Britain's prosperity.
