CHAPTER

The Role of Cold Exposure in Insulin Resistance

As we get older, we start to create more free radicals and these can damage our lipids within our brain and central nervous system as well as the periphery of the body. One way to mitigate some of this lipid peroxidation is deliberate cold exposure because there was various enzymes that prevent the oxidation of lipids in the body. Acute stress needs to be differentiated from chronic stress. And acute stressors are good. Chronic stressors are bad. So a periodic cold exposure, it's not going to fry your adrenals or cause adrenal fatigue or these things. It's a cute transitory event that leads to protective adaptations over time.
