The Whiplash
Damien Chazelle's character in Whiplash is rumored to be based on a jazz teacher. "We all respected him so much," says the trombone player who studied with Doug Richards. The film does such a good job at walking the line between it's not trying to defend his abusive behavior, but it's also not trying to say that if you want to try to be truly great, this won't help push you there.
