What Android Wanted to Do Was Provide an Open Source Thing
At the time, in 2005, there was two models for phone operating systems. Windows had the other model where they did an operating system that they would then license. What Android wanted to do was provide an open source thing. It's going to be free to everybody and everybody can see the code.
