China Is a Regional Hegemon and Taiwan Is Not a Peer Competitors of the United States

I think the situation with China is a lot like the situation with the Soviet Union during the Cold War. We have a deep-seated interest in defending Taiwan for strategic reasons. The Chinese on the other hand, again view this as sacred territory and this is what makes this such a dangerous situation. But I think about China much differently than I think about Russia.
