The Screaming Skull in Burton Agnes Hall

Burton Agnes Hall is a large, grand old mansion building built of imposing red brick. The first dwelling to have been built at the site was the smaller original manor house owned by Roger de Stuterville in 1173. Oral traditions tell that the skull comes from one of the daughters of Sir Henry, who owned the hall at the turn of the 17th century and passed away in 1620. On her deathbed, she told her surviving sisters that she wished for her head to be removed and stored on a table within the newly built hall. When loud bangs, knocking sounds and disturbances were heard all throughout the night, the sisters arranged to have Anne's body exhumed
