Is There a Single Reliable Interpretation of This Painting?
I think there's something else going on here that many other things going on here. I don't know that there is a single reliable interpretation of this painting. It has been reused endlessly for very, very serious works of art and very ridiculous works of art. And so i think atit, it's probably more mannerism that we're looking at here than anything else. But the particular formulation in the dark chamber with these monstrous intrusions, is entirely him. It is new. It is exciting.
