In January 1975, Gudrem organized a conference with the owners of Iceland's lowest paid women. She was furious when they decided to call their day off 'holiday' But in retrospect she says it was actually a great idea. 90% of Icelandic women went on strike that day - and 25,000 turned up to protest.
