The Success of the African American Women in the Army
The women of the 6-8 never lost sight of their mission to clear that postal backlog. They learned to spot tiny details, similarities with previous packing materials and distinctive smells. In December 1945, after the war ended, Major Adams was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel - making her the highest-ranking African-American woman in the U.S. Army at the time.
