Are Lichens Toxic to Animals?
There is a lot of research into secondary metabolites produced by lichens as possible candidates for use in biotechnology and medicine. Even vulpinic acid itself has been the subject of a study about treating athero sclorosis. And they found that the toxic lichen contained more of it the secondary fungus, which turned out to be a yeast.
