The Poetry Hoax
In poetry, we're often told to find a voice when in fact we of course have a voice already or I used to and we need to simply trust it how to sing with it. The problem with the voice of the hoax is not that it's artificial but rather not artificial enough. It does not offer the kinds of falsetto I've praised elsewhere. It is a voice not found but taken a lip sync, neither earned nor one's own,. less reaching for a higher key than off key. Most hoaxes especially the poetry ones are decidedly anti-modern. They mock images of modernism and pretension but what I call the exoticist behind it.
