The Story of the Dog

The four stages, the setting, the exposition or development, the culmination or peripatea and then finally, the solution, or the lysis an. The first stage actually has many names. Jong calls it the local, the statement of place, and even sometimes the exposition. I prefer to call it the setting because that's really the primary function of this phase of the narrative structure. It lets us know where it is that we're starting from. This stage tells us the scene of the action, the people involved and often the initial situation of the dreamer.
