Periander was renowned even in antiquity as a great builder. He refashioned Corinth's harbor and tried to dig a canal across the isthmus of Corinth. The Diokos paved road allowed boats laden with cargo to be dragged over land. Together, Kipcelis and Periander dominated Corinth for 75 years of extreme prosperity.
