The Importance of Sharing Repair Manuals
If it were easier to repair devices like computers and phones, than consumers could extend the lives of their devices. There's also an environmental benefit. But there are strong arguments on the other side too. In both agricultural equipment and consumer electronics, the hardware and the software work together in many cases. A repair is not just about wapping out a small physical part, but about making sure the parts are working well with the code. If device makers make diagnostic tools inside the software open for any one to use, then it can make devices easier to hack.
