The Biden Administration's Approach to the Taiwan Question

The Chinese consider Taiwan part of China. The US acknowledges but doesn't necessarily accept this principle, the one China principle. President Biden has said on four occasions that he would defend Taiwan if it were attacked. He believes there is a need to signal Xi Jinping that he will defend Taiwan because he doesn't want China's leader to miscalculate and think United States would sit back if China used force.
