Avatar: The Last Airbender
It's a show about four nations, one for each element. The Avatar who can bend or wield or manipulate all of them is said to bring peace to the world. Ang was selected because he chose from a group of toys that the Avatar always chooses the same objects in our world. So I don't think there's a gap between avatars, but because Ang was encased in ice for 100 years, he was still the Avatar even though he was comatose.
