Is the US an Ideal Currency Area?
In Canada, you don't see the same kinds of regional differences that you see in the US system. Part of it again has to do with the fragmented banking system. The great depression changed this trajectory and put the US firmly on an optimal currency area footing. World War II more so really opened up the South in terms of the labor markets.
