The Origins of the Gothic
Gothic is a term that we kind of all use, and we sort of know what it means. It does relate to a certain era, a certain style, a certain mode. The origin of the name is bound up with e the architecture of of the middle ages. That was reflected in novels such as the castle of otranto by horace walpole. And you find gothic in n all kinds of places that perhaps you wouldn't ordinary ly say, well, that's a gothic text.
