I think some of the wonkiness that you're describing, I think some of it is not necessarily academic or because of any connection to academia, but kind of in bad faith. And some of the centrism that I think you describe as well is I don't know that it's really people who thought that voters were. So I would say that some of the best academic work that I know that has contributed to the left is academic work that does think about what is it that we are trying to build towards somebody like Ruth Moore Gilson.
