In volume three of Capital, David Frum looks at capitalism as a whole. He says the most important element is how profit rate over course of capitalist production tends to fall. The book also considers competition and the everyday consciousness of the agents of production themselves. It's good to know, but until you've read all of it, that is capital, vol two, vol three.
