The Effects of Psychedelics on Brain Function
The finding was a decrease in blood flow throughout the brain and then a decrease in bold signal as well, quite widespread across the brain again. And so that was surprising because it was inconsistent with some of Franz Volenvider's work where he'd reported increases in glucose metabolism in the brain with psychedelics. But over time we started to scrutinize brain function in a more sophisticated way such that those old measures are somewhat less useful.
