The Power of Presence in Painting

I've never actually worked completely from memory I've worked from studies I've made and also I have worked very very occasionally from photographs. A painting quite recently from a photograph of my father which I think did somehow capture his presence. Charlotte is represented by Branwell as almost a kind of caricature and you get the sense that he didn't get on with her that well. The portrait of Charlotte I've taken partly from reading biographies where she's given kind of physical descriptions of having very bad skin and bad teeth but what everyone has said about Charlotte from kind of her contemporaries was that she had very very beautiful eyes yes, so I've made the eyes the kind of most luminous point in this
