The Importance of Sensory Deprivation

The work of a Montreal engineer named Walter Penfield who was based at McGill University. pioneered a technique that allowed him to operate on patients with epilepsy while they remain conscious. The study of sensory deprivation, which was pioneered by Penfield's colleague Donald have a neuropsychologist. In part this field of inquiry emerged out of HAB's research into neuro physiology but in part it related also to the political context of the first decade of the Cold War.
