One of the main reasons we feel dissatisfied by the end of the day is that we don't know what it done looks like for that day. We set ourselves up and is overachievers. The next rule of thumb, I think, would be helpful for people is to say, make sure you organize your day in a way that you don't do more today than you can completely recuperate from by tomorrow.
The path to success doesn't have to be as hard as we make it. In our pursuit of over-achieving, we tend to overwhelm ourselves until we burn out. According to Greg McKeown, this desperate pursuit of success gives us even less results and he's here to teach us how to succeed without burning out.
