Is There a Growth Narrative?
I think her diagnosis of the problem may well have been right in, but she has also been part of the process of why we have low levels of growth. The reduction in wages or wage stagnation, zero hour contracts, immense insecurity that people have, you know, consumption culture. These are all things that over time mean that an economy is going to stagnate. And then you are hit by crisis. We live in a world now where there will be crisis after crisis,. But of course, there's going to be multiple climate issues that will weaken food systems around the world. So, you've got to govern and have policies in a very different way now.
