The Crazy Ivan Strategy in the 1990s Submarines
On the Thursday episode of the variety program, John Ashbrook erroneously related an anecdote involving the crazy Ivan strategy employed by Captain Marco in The Hunt for Red October. Mr. Ashbrook insinuated that a crazy Ivan was the maneuver taken by Captain Ramius to move into a torpedo fired by the Soviet submarine. Oh, no. The crazy Ivan was a maneuver taken by Russian submarines in the film and also in real life,. apparently, of taking rapid and unexpected course corrections in an attempt to detect if they were being tracked.
