Women's History of the Bar

In 1920, the 19th Amendment had given women the right to vote for the first time. One male writer complained that drinking during prohibition meant having to fight for space at the bar with a bunch of school girls. For women, this came at a time when the suffragettes and the first wave feminists had made real gains. Many women had gone out to work during World War I,. returning with an increased sense of freedom and independence they weren't about to give up.
