About 45,000 people died in psychiatric hospitals in France during the war. Was it deliberate? That's a really interesting and quite controversial question. I'm sure the Nazis were perfectly happy to see this atrocity taking place. All they had to do is put rationing in place, make it impossible for these people to get fed. But did it need to be deliberate? It's a very ambiguous situation.
