Every hour, 430 quintillion joules of energy hit the earth from the sun. One day's worth of energy from the sun hitting the earth could power a vehicle to drive to Mars and back 38 million times. Electricity makes up just a small portion at about 18%. Fuels for things like heat and transportation make up the other 82%.
