The Nature of Fascism

Mussolini never fully committed himself to a specific view of the future. This meant that he could change and alter his focus based on the situation. He needed a fascist party that would support him in those alterations. The new fascist state led by Mussolini with its own will and personality was subject to many of the same forces that change individuals. Those fascist leaders who would be present throughout Mussolini's reign would be forced into similar flexible positions. All of this led to a real lack of vision and singular direction within the regime.
