Gift-Givers Want to Be a Creative Giver
In popular culture, when we have these gift-giving exchanges, Givers often want to be seen as creative. Jeff: If it's glamorous but doesn't actually serve a purpose for someone, it's almost like a white elephant gift. I think a lot of people imagine that the reason gifts are exchanged is because we're trying to make others happy. But there are also very selfish reasons for giving a gift.
