What Is the Higgs Boson?

An electron moving through space is interacting with the Higgs field and doing that gives it mass. It's not like we're talking about how the proton has quarks inside of it. This is like a new elementary particle that is made of these interactions. So without the Higgs boson, all these particles would be massless but split into their left and right-handed versions. Each particle would have to decide if it was a spinning one way or the other.
